NYC Heat Wave

Saturday, June 30, 2012

This past week in New York City we've really been feeling the summer heat. Thankfully, I found two of the best ways to try to stay cool- turbans and.. ice cream, duh! Although one makes you look a lot more chic than the other, there's no denying a little summer treat every once and a while! (Especially when it's a Mr. Softee parked right in front of your office on 38th st.)

What I'm Wearing:
Vintage dress and necklace from Beacons Closet | Silk Scarf from Otrera (I recomend their evil eye scarf- super sheer and love the print) | Boots by BCBG | Ring by Vanessa Mooney | Lipstick is by Hourglass

Now & Then: Volume 1.

Late night beach fun.
Sipping ice coffee with my toes in the sand and sea salt in my hair..
Not much more makes me a happier girl.

What I'm Wearing:
Vintage Guns 'N' Roses t-shirt I got at Salvation Army years ago and cut up into a few different styles over the years (you'll see what I'm talking about below!) | Black Levis jean shorts also from Salvation Army years ago- distressed myself | Flannel given to me from my moms old 90's wardrobe | All jewelry gifted from my favorite jewelry designer, Vanessa Mooney

This is the first of my little series titled "Now & Then".

I think with blogging becoming so popular these days fleeting trends tend to overflow content vs. original style.  I find myself sticking to pieces I have worn and loved over the years rather then current trendy pieces you'd see in the front window of H&M. I also think it's interesting to see the transition of how one piece is styled on the same person 5-6 years later.

When I came across this photo of me below, at age 16, wearing the same shirt I'm wearing above, now at 23, the quote "fashion fades- style is eternal" really set in. Style is such a personal thing, it's important to not lose sight of that. You should always make sure you are wearing something because you love it, not because it's on the cover of a magazine or a window display.

What I'm Wearing:
Vintage Levi shorts from Beacons Closet - DIY studded with studs from MJ Trimmings | White Alexander Wang button up shirt | Hat from Salvation Army | Boot from BCBG | Bag by Rebecca Minkoff

My personal style has always been pretty basic- girly but edgy. A classic white top and jean shorts is one of my go-to everyday outfits. When adding studs, leather, loads of rings and a hat you create a whole new vibe to the simple outfit.. creating a style all your own.

On my INSTAGRAM I did a giveaway for a MJ Trim gift card so my followers could also enjoy studding a pair of shorts (or just DIYing in general)

The winner is: Kimberly, @loudiamond

Congrats! Please contact me via e-mail: runninginwedges@gmail.com

and others follow me on instagram for more giveaways!

In bed with Woody Allen, Chanel and …a $8 dress?
Last week ValRouge sent me a classic black maxi dress and I decided to dress it up with black Chanel boots, a vintage link belt, and tons of gold jewels sent from one of my new favorite designers, Karen London.

If my style was a recipe it would consist of a ounce of vintage, a splash of designer, and a sprinkle of modern day.

What you see around my room in this post is a vintage Canon video camera and a vintage france festival poster I found garage saleing upstate a few weekends ago.. $9 well spent!

My mind goes wild when I think of all the ways to style a classic black maxi. I think next time I throw it on I'll opt for a flannel and good ol' pair of docs. From glamour to grunge.

If you love these Chanel boots keep a look out on my Threadflip online shop..
They will be added soon!
