Nightgowns and bathrobes

Thursday, January 31, 2013

I think on my blog there are many patterns you've probably caught onto by now.. like how there is always a coffee glued to my hand, how I'm pretty much never seen without some type of hat (I promise I'm not bald or something guys- I just really like hats!), how my nails and lips stray away from a fire engine red every now and then.. but always come right back to the classic, how 90% of the time I am in earth tones.. and most importantly, how I pretty much always look super comfortable. I keep these things consistent because this is a personal style blog, and these are serious factors that make me who I am and my style what it is.

When thrifting, a favorite section of mine has always been sleepwear. That may sound kinda gross to some, and to each their own, but I find the perfect little dress slips that make the perfect summer minis in there and huge oversized sweaters that employees often mistaken for bathrobes.. and rightfully so. I mean, look at me. The key in pulling off wearing these things and not totally looking like you rolled out of bed is what you pair with it. Accessories can really make or break an outfit. Adding a belt, some rad jewels, detailed tights, a big ol' hat, and a great bag are all ways to pretty much distract from the fact you're the most comfortable girl in New York City right now and probably paid less than $15 for your outfit. Shhhh.

What I'm Wearing: Thrifted slip and oversized sweater | Vintage Chanel bag from Shop Wasteland | Jeffrey Campbell booties from LF stores | Vanessa Mooney necklace | Vintage hat | Hanes Hosiery tights

It's funny, when people ask me who inspired my style it's a given that it was my mother and father. A rock and roll front man meets a gypsy.. and you have me, in a nutshell. I tend to leave this out, pretty much for the soul fact I'd sound like a crazy person.. but hey, it's thursday..let's get crazy. So growing up during the most influential years of being a teen I remember tons of celeb gossip magazines always coming into my moms hair salon. I use to love flipping through each page. I found such honest style inspiration from them, as odd as that sounds. It was something about seeing what these people were wearing on their off days (and some pretty bad days) - you know, not photoshopped.. not styled.. not on TV. Just real. In some strange way, it was almost the pre street style. I can recall automatically swooning over the snap shots of Mary Kate and Ashley, Rachel Zoe, and Nicole Richie. I guess it's pretty obvious I have a thing for blondes, no? I remember ripping out my favorite photos of what they were wearing and that inspiring me when going thrifting. It's crazy, but I can honestly say that being that 15 year old girl seeing them running around in photos, grabbing coffee in the city, wearing these oversized sweaters and what not must have had it's effect on me. Unfortunately, I managed to walk away with the Olsen Twins bad posture and no ones paper thin bod. SUCH A BUMMER.

Have a good weekend guys! xo

Some mornings you wake up and literally try on 20 outfits only to end up in all your favorite pieces. For me, getting dressed without the concept of "oh my god- this is going to be an outfit post" means you will always find me in 1. Leather 2. Vintage t-shirts 3. Flannels 4. Booties and 5. ...More leather. And let's not forgot, my favorite accessory, a coffee.

What I'm Wearing: Thrifted paper thin white tee | My moms/dads old flannel | Vintage leather from Salvation Army | Zara leather pants | Nine West booties | Thrifted rings | 10th Tribe beanie

While I know this isn't the most flattering outfit or most put together outfit.. I feel that with blogging you don't want to lose sight of your true style. So many blogs these days are walking advertisements for brands they would have never worn unless given to them. I am also guilty of doing the same- which is why making sure I keep it real with you guys is so important to me. Everything you see me wearing here I bought (okay, minus my rad hat but I totally would have bought it anyway) on my own- with my own money.. because I truly love and wanted these clothes. It's important not to get blinded by all of this and make sure you don't loose sight of your true style. I mean, that's what got you blogging in the first place, right?

Ah, the forever battle of downtown vs. uptown style. After publishing my last style post where I wore these Nine West red heels and stated that you could also dress them down for a more "downtown vibe" I had to back up my words- right? So, I did just that and I toned the shoes down by pairing them with vintage... everythinggg.

What I'm Wearing: Vintage 1984 American Gypsy tee (a birthday prezzy from my lovely mom) | Vintage blazer | Prada vintage clutch | Nine West heels | Lee vintage jeans | Vintage rings and sunnies

Thrift Tip: I find some of my favorite pieces in the mens department. These vintage jeans were hidden gems tucked away in the mens section. My blazer I've actually had since I was 16. I always go through the little boy section to always stock up on my favorite blazers. Because I have tiny shoulders the fit is just right on my body. Be creative and keep an open mind while thrifting!

What do you guys think? Are you more of a downtown cool or uptown chic kinda gal?

Classic New York.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Ah- New York, New York. So nice they named it twice. Now, as we all know.. I am a die hard Brooklyn gal. Butttt truth be told, I am a Manhattan kinda lady 5 out of 7 day's a week. You'd probably never know this since all my blog shooting (for the most part) is done in good ol' Williamsburg.. but from Monday through Friday you can find me running around Soho popping into the closest Starbucks to get my daily cup (or 12) of caffeine.

What I'm Wearing: Phillip Lim 3.1 jacket | Jill Sanders sheer top | H&M printed pants | Nine West heels | Karen London necklace and ring | Bodhi bag

When Nine West sent me these shoes, right away they screamed Manhattan to me. I knew I could dress them down and hang around Brooklyn in them too, but I just instantly visualized a very Manhattan casual meets glamourous moment in them. Red lips, red nails, red pumps. A sharp coat, a bold but classic bag, and gold accessories. All the while, still keeping my downtown edge with opting for a beanie, some printed loose fitting pants, and a touch of sheer in my blouse.

and girls, trust me on this one. You'll never have a problem hailing a cab while wearing these heels.. xo
