A pop of red.

During the winter I find myself wearing very neutral colors day to day. As much as that is the east coast way, adding a pop of color can spice up a simple color palette. For me, my go to is always red. I love a bright red lipstick and for this outfit I went for a bright red beanie to compliment the lips.

The dream team: camo, leather, and denim.

When thinking of a few of my favorite things to wear, three things come to mind right away: leather, vintage, and denim.. So why not wear them all together?

Invest in basics: In this post I'm wearing three key wardrobe pieces that are worthy of investing in. I personally think every girl should have a boyfriend jean vest to pair with e v e r y t h i n g. I personally can't wait for spring to throw mine over cute vintage floral minis and combat boots. It can give that little bit of edge to a girly outfit or that wow factor to an already casual outfit such as this one. Personally, I love this fit so much. I have more jean vests then anyone could ever wear in a lifetime and this might just be my new favorite. For $64 you get quality and a piece that you can wear over and over.

Next up, a pair of pleather (or leather if that's yooo thang) pants. First, I wear pleather/leather skinny pants nearly every other day so I feel like having both sweats and classic skinny fit are such staples for a wardrobe. These pants are super cozy but has such a high fashion appeal to them. For $38 you can not go wrong.

And finally, little black wedges.. of course. With shoes I can not express enough the importance of buying quality. I know spending more than $100 on a pair can suck at the time, but in the end you'll be thankful. With that being said, you want to make sure you invest in a pair that goes with everything... so... black, hello! I love a good wedge or heeled boot.. but I think that goes without saying. Cupcakes and leather for lunch.

If there's three things New Yorker's love it's 1. wearing black head to toe 2. leather detail and 3. cupcakes ...duh. So for this post I wanted to focus on a few of my favorite in each of those categories.. but mostly I just wanted to eat cupcakes.

I'm seriously obsessed with this leather overall jumper. I actually hate having to layer it since it's still cold out- but come the summer I'm excited to pair it with just bright bralettes, booties, and of course a nice golden tan.

 

 I've been dying for these boots ever since I saw MK wearing a similar style awhile back. My friend told me about this website 6pm where she actually got her pair of Zoe's for only $70. I ended up checking it out and ordering a few pairs of Sam Edelman boots for dirt cheap. With these, I love how you can take the harness on and off so you have two different looks! After snapping a few shots without my jacket, we popped into Billy's Bakery to warm up. I ordered a large soy latte and a red velvet cupcake which were both delish. Now this spot is one of  my go to cupcake joints in the city. A must try if you ask me!

NYFW: Day 2 - Nanette Lepore

I have such love/hate relationship with New York Fashion Week. I love seeing the new collections, working with new brands, and getting to see fellow blogger friends from other states all together in one place. What I don't care for is the people who use fashion week as a reason to dress crazy. Like, calmmmmmm down. Put your cat ears, 100 pound fur coat, and 10 feet tall shoes away. This is about the designers, not about getting your photo snapped for a street style blog you never heard of. My rule for fashion week is if you wouldn't wear it out normally, don't wear it to a show. I'd rather have a true style than an obnoxious false image. With that being said, I do think fashion week is a time to tweak your day to day look- maybe adding something a drop more bold but still not over the top. Or a great excuse to wear some of your favorite designer pieces. You know, like the $600 Alexander Wang heels you bought to basically sit on your shelf in your apartment because let's face it, you're not going to wear them on the subway and running to work often... but you can for sure pull them out for fashion week! Amen? Amen.

On this morning I had to be at Lincoln Center for Nanette Lepore's 11am show. Truth be told- only fashion week can get me out of bed that early to get ready, get my butt from Brooklyn to the upper West Side, and then of course leave a little extra time for the long line at Starbucks and to be able to snap a few outfit photos before having to run into the show. 

I thought the show was excellent- for sure as few pieces I'd love to add to my collection. Nanette Lepore never struck me as really "my style", but it's all about how to take a piece and style it to make it your style. What are your thoughts on the show/collection?

NYFW: Day 1 - Cole Haan x Tumblr Subway Style

Fashion week is always so hard to juggle - between actually working 5 days a week and running around to events, I'm honestly confused how anyone can pull it off (unless you take off... or your daddy pays your rent) Either way, it is a time we all look forward to yet dread because the stress of it all. But once it's over, we can't wait for the next season to be here! Since I have to pick and chose what I can actually do between working, once Cole Haan and Tumblr invited me to their Subway Style adventure, I knew that this was on the priority list!

Cole Haan was full of surprises this year. They had a messenger drop off my first Subway Style clue, sent me to their store to pick out shoes, had myself and fellow bloggers meet them in the subway for a photoshoot, then sent to a secret location for a party. Here Nina Frazier of Mashable shot me getting shot, along with pretty much my whole adventure of the day for a story on their site.

Once we found the location, it all made sense. It was held in the NYC Subway Museum. Delish food, tasty drinks, good music, great company, and more importantly.. awesome shoes. A lovely way to kick off Fashion Week if I do say so myself.
