AT HOME: LIGHTING UP YOUR SPACE.

Since moving into my new home this year, the first room I wanted to tackle was the kitchen. I’ve always dreamt of a bright white, spacious, kitchen.. and now that I finally had one, I couldn’t wait to decorate the space where I would wake up and have my morning cup of coffee, cook warm meals, and entertain friends and family in. Since there is so much share and learn when it comes to decor and setting up your new home, this post is focusing only on one part of the kitchen. I want to take my time and share this process in details with you guys so we can learn together!

Okay-okay-okay. Now let me take you back a few months ago: I had finally picked out the table out – the chairs – hung up pieces on the wall – added plants.. but something was missing. That’s when I looked up and knew it was time to start looking for the perfect light.
Since this isn’t a formal dinning area, I wanted a light that was casual – but still made a statement. That’s when I found the Avery light by Mitzi. As I live in the Hudson Valley, I was so excited to find a major lighting company I loved that was coincidentally based in the Hudson Valley as well! Aesthetically, it was exactly what I wanted. On top of that, it was actually affordable, great quality, and an added bonus: I was shopping local!

Since this was my first time having a new light put into my home (I’ve always lived in small apartments before this major move) I didn’t know the first thing about putting in new lighting. The process was a lot easier than I imagined: I found a local electrician that came over to install it. It took about 2 hours and was around $60. The light worked perfectly. It actually has a beautiful dim glow, which is perfect for dinner parties.. (One fact about me: I am ALL about that mood lighting)

Now you may be questioning why mint? What you don’t see in these posts is the kitchens wall titles that are white and.. mint! I also have a few 60’s mint serving dishes on display along with my mint tin watering can for my plants that sits along side the sink. With pop’s of state(mint) here and there, everything picks up and compliments each other perfectly and I couldn’t be happier!

One really special piece that has always traveled with me to every place that I’ve called home is this “Today’s Specials” board. It was in my grandfathers business back in 1940. It’s such a fun piece to have in a kitchen and compliments the diner feel of the Avery light just perfectly. I really felt like once the light was up everything came together and I could finally move on and start to tackle the next room in the house!

But first.. I think it’s time for a dinner party, wouldn’t you say so?!
