Art x Fashion.

It’s Sunday. 12pm and my alarm is buzzing in my ear. I stretch out my arm, face down still planted in my pillow, and wave around my hand until it magically hits snooze. I needed 20 more minutes of sleep to finish my dream where I was sipping lattes and thrift shopping with Karl Lagerfeld and Woody Allen. Basically, you could call this a sex dream for moi.

I stretched my toes to the bottom of the bed- my arms to the ceiling, then rolled (…literally) out of bed. To my surprise, the cutest little package from Cooper Avenue was waiting for me at my door. This was not my typical package of clothing I get sent, but even sweeter. ..COOKIES! I decided a chocolate chip cookie and a cup of iced coffee would be the right way to start off my lazy sunday.

While indulging, I needed to sit down with a good read. I’ve caught up on all my recent fashion mags, so I pulled out Mary-Kate and Ashley’s book, Influence. Now a days, I feel like most people in my generation get their dose of inspiration from one another via the internet. Fashion blogs have seem to taken over the source of direct fashion and style inspiration for most… but- what inspires fashion directly? Essentially, we get our inspiration from designers… but where do the designers get their inspiration? I found myself asking myself this question but shortly exploring the many answers while I flipped each page.

Have you ever considered how much art can influence a designer? How one painting can transform into a deathly beautiful couture dress? Or how an album covers artwork could inspire the shape of a high heel?  How about interior design? Such as a velvet couch or floral curtains could inspire new pieces for a clothing line. Well, they have and continue to do so. Art is all around you. You can be constintly inspired if you open up your eyes and mind to see more when you look at something.

Photography is also a constant inspiration for fashion. From editorials to street style- down to the many different styles of shooting. Being visually inspired by something can expand your mind to create something so much more. You might not even notice how much it impacts you at the time.. but it is!

Artist of all kind, please keep creating and inspiring. You are doing wonderful things for the fashion world. xo
